PFLEX Anal Probe 12mm with collar PR-13a
- Anal electrode with 12mm diameter
- The electrode has a collar to control insertion depth and allow adjustment of depth. This is useful for adjusting to the length of anus which varies especially between men (longer) and women (shorter) as well as for reproducibility of results.
- 2 circumferential electrodes for pelvic floor muscle stimulation or EMG assessment
- Suitable for use by men and women anally and can be used vaginally by females if a very small probe is required (but single orifice use only - if used vaginally, do not use the same probe rectally or vica versa)
Combined with either an electrical stimulation machine or EMG the 12 mm anal probe is used for:
- bowel / faecal incontinence
- male pelvic floor stimulation
- female pelvic floor stimulation of EAS and puborectalis
- intra-vaginally when a small probe is required (but single orifice use only - if used vaginally, do not use the same probe rectally or vica versa)
- EMG recording anally for assessment of anal sphincter and pelvic floor muscle function
- downtraining of overactive pelvic floor muscles using EMG
For use with EMG biofeedback devices: Neurotrac Simplex EMG Myoplus
or with Electrical Stimulation devices : Neurotrac Continence Neurotrac Pelvitone
The PFLEX Anal Probe 12mm is designed for single person use and should not be autoclaved. It is manufactured from medical grade materials but not in guaranteed sterile conditions and we therefore recommend washing with soap and water prior to use.

Anal Insertion and Use:
- Usually easiest used in side lying but can be used lying on your back with knees bent comfortably.
- For comfort, do not use when your rectum is full. It will be more comfortable to use when rectum is empty - after a bowel motion.
- Use a small amount of water-based lubricant to assist insertion and contact such as YES, Sylk or Optilube.
- Only insert the body of the electrode into the anus, the flange MUST remain outside the anus.
- Due to pressure within the rectum/anus you will find it easier to gently hold the flange to ensure it is not pushed out of the anus.
- It can be helpful to take a deep breath in, then out and relax as you exhale, gently bearing down through the back passge to aide insertion.
- Anal electrodes generally slide in quite easily.
- During a contraction of the pelvic floor muscles when the stimulation machine is active you should feel the end of the probe pulling inwards slightly
- The sensation should be a strong buzzing type sensation, not painful. It may take you a few sessions to get used to the feeling before you can turn it up to elicit a contraction.
- Even without a contraction being elicited initially, the sensory input of the stimulation will help to reconnect your pelvic floor with the sensory and motor cortexes in the brain.
Vaginal Insertion and Use:
- Usually easiest lying on your back with knees bent comfortably but can be inserted and used in side lying
- Use a small amount of lubricant to assist insertion.
- Only insert the body of the electrode, the flange MUST remain outside the vagina.
- During a contraction of the pelvic floor muscles when the stimulation machine is active you should feel the end of the probe dipping downwards towards your tailbone (feel via the flange)
- The sensation should be a strong buzzing type sensation, not stinging or painful. It may take you a few sessions to get used to the feeling before you can turn it up to elicit a contraction.
- Even without a contraction being elicited initially, the sensory input of the stimuation will help to reconnect your pelvic floor with the sensory and motor cortexes in the brain
Care of your electrode:
- Please handle your electrode with care, the wires in the leads are delicate.
- Insert and remove via the flange, NOT the leads.
- DO NOT wrap the leads around the electrode when storing.
- Clean your electrode before and after each use with warm soapy water.
- Let it dry and return it to its plastic bag and store in a safe dry place.
Do not use if you:
- are pregnant
- have an anal or rectal prolapse
- have haemorrhoids
- have an anal fissure
